Movember at Octopus

meh.ro3618Liza from The Octopus Bar wrote to let us know they’re kicking off Movember with a party tonight:

We are collaborating with Jameson, Kettle One, Hale’s Ales, Red Bull and Movember to raise money for men’s health (Prostate cancer awareness, testicular cancer awareness and men’s mental health) and as a bar we are donating the sales tax from sales from the entire month of November to the campaign.

Additionally, we are hosting several events through the month to raise money and awareness as well as Jameson (Jameson Black Barrel) is matching our donation. Our goal as a bar, and part of this community, is to raise $8000 ($1000 for each tentacle) or more and be matched by Jameson Irish Whiskey.

I am honored and excited to be a part of this community and I know this is a great opportunity to get more of the community involved in something that is important to all of us. A unique opportunity to tie the neighborhood even closer together…

The launch event is this Saturday from 9pm-12am at the Octopus. We have barbers to help assist in the Movember concept as well as a Zombie Pagent to help pull people in the day after Halloween. $100 gift card to Octopus for the best ZOMBIE by the way!!

If you want to donate, see their Movember donation page.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

A box was stolen off my porch on Oct 14th, delivered by Fed-X. A little late to tell you this but here it is. My address is on N.40th and the porch is in plain sight. It was taken during the day and my husband was home. Oh yes, it was a good sized box.
