Carol Magallanes here, BF Day Parent and operator of Quiz Night for Day, a pub-trivia style fundraiser for BF Day Elementary PTSA.  Our third installment of this totally-fun event is happening at Pecado Bueno (4307 Fremont Ave) on Tuesday, November 4th.

Many of BF Day’s families live in Wallingford, and as neighbors I would like to invite your readers to join me at this community engaging evening.
A little backstory: I am just a mom who wanted to become involved in my neighborhood school when my older child started kindergarten.  I attended the PTSA meetings and learned about the budget, projects we pay for, and our fundraising plan for the year.  It’s always a struggle, there are always things we wish we had more money for. Fundraising was always a chore.

quizI had this brilliant idea.  I had been going to pub trivia on Wednesday nights, after the kids were asleep and I could get away. I had been going for years and had a lot of friends in the trivia circuit.  I had thought of hosting a pub-trivia fundraiser and the idea would not go away.

Pecado Bueno had just opened up about this time, and one afternoon my pre-schooler and I went in to check it out for lunch.  The owner was there, and I introduced myself and asked how he would feel about providing a venue for my quiz night.  Before I could finish, he jumped on the idea, and offered free food to all participants.  He would take sales from the bar and all he wanted from me was a thank you letter that he could display on his wall.  He was happy to host as a way to connect with the community he serves.

The first Quiz Night for Day was on January 31st, 2012, and was a smashing success.  My buddy from Wednesday night was the quizmaster, and the place was hopping.  Local businesses, (like a 1 block radius) donated gift cards for winners and I raised nearly $2000.

It’s been two years since the last one.  I am hosting Quiz Night for Day 3 on November 4th at Pecado Bueno.  I’ll be quizmaster this time. (Now I’m also PTSA President, not that that has anything to do with anything.)

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
