Barb has lived in south Wallingford since 1992. She's a lady with a lopper as volunteer lead of the Burke-Gilman Trail Urban Orchard Stewards, a group that cares for public fruit trees along the Burke-Gilman Trail between Eastern and where Pacific becomes N 34th.
In February 2020 Barb founded the current Friends of Meridian Playground which cares for the fruit trees and grounds of the park and holds weekly volunteer work parties on Wednesday noonish. Friday mornings she joins the Tilth Alliance volunteers to manage the care of the fruit trees at the Good Shepherd learning garden.
Barb worked for nonprofit City Fruit for 9 years and still partners with them to teach neighbors to grow good fruit locally.
Barb is also accumulating records and photos about the Good Shepherd property for eventual publication online.
Glad to hear this. I walked through the park today and saw one of the trees was up again, the other in process of being righted. Good they weren’t hauled away and discarded.
Yes, the larger tree was righted and anchored. The second tree didn’t have enough root structure to keep it upright. See video of the second tree being righted at the City Fruit Facebook page.
Hi! I tried to find a space to post on the actual blog outside any of the articles, but I cannot find space. If someone knows how, can you please copy and paste this to the blog?
My car was broken into near Woodlawn Ave N and 36th Wednesday, January 7th between 11pm-7am. A blue bag was stolen that said “Kindred Healthcare” on it with electronics, makeup, glasses, and my journal inside of it. A good Samaritan neighbor found a few of my credit cards near Wallingford Ave and 40th, tracked me down, and returned them to me. Thank you, Bob! My insurance agent, Charles Lindberg, has done a great job with follow through. I already have been able to replace my work computer and a few other items. Thank you, Charles!
A neighborly reminder to please lock your cars and make sure anything of value is out of the car!
If you find a pink journal lying in the bushes on Woodlawn Ave N, 40th, or Wallingford Ave, please message me! Material possessions are replaceable, but the contents in my journal are not! Thank you, Wallingford Community. <3 WallyLove, Kelly
