We are excited to announce a special event happening this Saturday for Valentine’s Day! On February 14, 2015 Seattle’s own Rat City Rollergirls will be appearing at Fast Girl Skates in Wallingford, hosting a Kissing Booth. Fans can meet and get kissed by their favorite skaters.

This is a league fundraising event. RCRG fans can donate $5 for a kiss from the skater of their choice. Many of the league’s top skaters and fan favorites will be on-hand from 1-4pm. The skaters are also happy to pose for photos and offer insights into upcoming bouts. This is a special occasion where fans can interact with the Rat City Rollergirls in a fun and exciting way outside of Key Arena. And Fast Girl Skates, the world’s first roller derby shop, makes for the perfect setting. Rows of used and new skates, gear, accessories, clothing and more will be displayed and on-sale storewide.

Fast Girl Skates opened their flagship doors located in Seattle at 252 NE 45th Street back in 2007, the very first storefront of its kind. Since then the shop has been educating new roller derby players, helping to expand the sport, stocking a wide array of derby-related products, and re-introducing locals to roller skating for both fun and exercise. As well as operating a website that caters to skaters internationally. The Northwest and Seattle-area have become world renowned hot spots in the broad derby community. In fact, roller derby is the fastest growing sport in the world, with no sign of stopping. The recent Roller Derby World Cup hosted teams from more than 30 different countries.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
