Mr Gyros coming to Wallingford

Jordan Jordan February 10, 2015 20 Comments

3180652568_7ea10367e8_zIt’s confirmed: the popular Greek sandwich shop Mr Gyros is opening a new branch in Wallingford, on 45th Street between Latona and Thackeray (next to the Hawaiian store, where Night Light Nails used to be).

Joni Arsheed, co-owner and founder of My Gyros, said that the construction should be complete by late February, and, permits permitting, they’ll be serving shawarma and kabobs to Wallingford by the end of the month.

“We always wanted Wallingford to open a spot in Wallingford,” Joni told us. “45th Street is so beautiful, and it has great foot traffic. We actually looked at the spot where Ramen Man ended up, but weren’t able to get the lease.”

The Wallingford location will serve the same menu as their Ballard and Greenwood shops, and similar hours: 11:30 am – 8:30 pm Monday through Friday, lunch only on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

By all accounts, this will be a boon to Wallingford’s food scene.

(Thanks for the tip, Spin and Mark Berryman. Falafel photo from Austin King.)

Night light is there on the corner. This is their old location just a couple doors down.

I LOVE Mr. Gyros!! This is such great news for Wallingford. Mr. Gyros is rated the 4th best place to eat in the US according to their algorithm: http://officialblog.yelp.com/2014/02/yelp-data-reveals-top-100-places-to-eat-bookmark-these-babies-now.html
They’re awarded again and again in Seattle for best fast food, best Middle Eastern, etc. More importantly, they are just tasty and healthy food from the nicest of guys! I can’t wait!

    Typo: “47th best”

I would strongly encourage Joni to consider staying open late on Friday and Saturday nights. Kate’s Pub is right across the street and there is a frequent late crowd at Rancho Bravo and Dick’s. I’m sure the business would good.

Well, we need a little more God here on this page.. after the f@@@ name calling about vaccinations etc.. God needs to be here.
However it was a typo.. I meant ‘good”.
I think this is a great restaurant add to 45th

The word “good” works well for the forum. Avoids an ongoing, never ending discussion about the capital G(od.) Last thing we need.

    And..the restaurant is great!

This is the best news ever. Mr Gyros is the best.

This is great news! Always happy to have a new restaurant, especially one of a different ethnic slant. I’m so happy that Ramen Man got their space, and Mr. Gyro got another one! Win-win for us.

Open as late as the ungodly hour of 8:30pm when by that hour only Wallingford hooligans and scofflaws are roaming the streets. Only lunch on Saturday and closed Sundays. Yeah, that’s about par for the course for Wallingford. Bright lights. Big city.

They should at least stay open later on Friday and Saturday nights. Lots of foot traffic from Wallingford to U-District, and they could provide some healthy competition to Dick’s, Rancho de Winchells, and the couple other late night options in E. Wallingford. I don’t know about you folks, but: if I’m coming out of Kate’s at 1am, a gyro sounds especially amazing (more so than a burrito or cheap burgers / pizza).

Woo hoo, fantastic news! Love gyros, love Mr. Gyros, and more variety on 45th st. is a great thing! With this and Pam’s moving in the neighborhood is moving on up! Hope they can both make it work, they’re great options for us.

Mr. Gyros is open! We went last night (April 14th) with my in-laws and children to pick up dinner. Yum! We have loved Mr. Gyros ever since 2005 when we lived a few blocks away from their Greenwood location. Now we’re only two blocks away. Needless to say I’m very excited.
