Tigerly Ox, Vietnamese Take Out, to Open Next to Julias

  • Post author:

Tigerly Ox will be opening in the old bakery space next to Julia’s on Wallingford Ave. They’ll be offering a Vietnamese version of what Mr Gyros is now offering in East Wallingford- international take out that’s fixed quickly but tastes great, with an option to eat in. They plan to be open from 11 to 8 every day of the week.

Their food sourcing is local where possible, although their chicken is not free range. All their food is offered with “tamarind-black pepper glazed tofu”, which sounds really nice. Here’s a draft version of the menu:

The restaurant is the creation of John and Jodie Tran, who have been in Seattle for 4 years, and before that lived in Portland, OR. They are also aspiring sommeliers, so down the line their place will be serving wine as well. Here’s John’s synopsis of what they’re aspiring to be and what to expect over the next couple weeks:

Tigerly Ox is a Vietnamese eatery serving up tasteful, convenient and well-balanced Vietnamese classics to include Banh Mi (Sandwiches), Bun (Vermicelli Noodles), Com (Rice Plates), and Sa Lach (Salads). Our protein will include Chicken, Pork, Steak, and tofu; all of which are specially marinated. Our Banh Mi comes with, among other toppings, pickled veggies, pate and mayonnaise that are all completely homemade on local artisan baguettes. Our Bun, Com and Sa Lach come with, among other things, homemade sweet & sour fish sauce or homey & lime soy sauce. We are geared towards take-out, however there will be limited seating in our space.

Our external sign is slated to go up late next week with a soft opening scheduled for the week of the 15th. Our grand opening is scheduled for the end of this month with the exact date to be announced soon!

Welcome to Wallingford John and Jodie! Here’s a picture of the space as it is today, with John working to get things set up for the opening:

Eric

I've lived here since 1998. I spent 13 years at Microsoft as a developer and manager, concurrent with Ballmer's reign. I quit after seeing my third consecutive project cancelled, while my parents needed help, and my wife was getting stressed working at Seattle Public Schools. Since then, I have helped family and community while taking on side projects and volunteer work. I led the renovation of Meridian Playground, helped moderate the South Transfer Station design, helped advance the Green Lake Way road diet, and have guided several transportation and parks projects through neighborhood involvement. I wrote for Wallyhood for a while and was president of the Wallingford Community Council during the great recession, where thankfully, land use was not an issue. I'm an impatient moderate vegetarian who believes in practical win-win solutions.

Yay! Something quick, that is delicious! There is a shop like this in Shoreline that is no fills (same type of menu) but such a great option!

What else does everyone think are we missing in Wallingford? I for one wish we had a good Korean place, so I didn’t have to drive North on 99.

I hope their food is as awesome as their menu!

Interesting, but I will only go if the servers look better than most of the boring places around here…

to 11. Sad comment from you. Prompts me to wonder if you “look better” whatever that means. I think this business, and the other places you find boring, will do very well without your presence.

Frankie also called TacoTime a s***hole on this blog awhile back and has been pretty critical towards new, small restaurants in the neighborhood. I wouldn’t take what he says seriously.

Thank you for the warm welcome Wallingford! We are excited to be apart of the neighborhood. Remember to “like” us on Facebook.

Correction: the tamarind-black pepper glaze is only offered on our tofu. Other marinades are offered on our beef, chicken, and pork options.

i had lunch today at this restaurant in Austin, Texas:

we need a place like this in Wallingford! the food is delicious, the service excellent, the decor quirky and fun, and they have a lot of sustainability-oriented touches (like locally-sourced ingredients, marmoleum tabletops and a light fixture made of re-purposed bike wheels!).

i don’t know of any place like this in Seattle. but I think it would go over very well.

sorry, i meant to post this in the “vegetarian options” thread…
