A Little Library For Little People

  • Post author:

In the land of neighborhood karma, Mark just pulled off perfection. He writes:

I’ve just put up Seattle’s first (?) Tiny Free Library, a little free library just for pre schoolers. I did it because I wasn’t seeing a lot of kids’ books in the existing community library for our two kids (nearly 3 and nearly 4).

So this is small, just big enough for board books, and at around the right height for toddlers. Be great if families started to use it.

It’s on the south side of 44th between Corliss and Bagley.

The library is upcycled from an old dolls house, check it out:

We seriously can’t imagine a more perfect neighborhood thing, although a new librarian is needed. The monkey turned out to be way too tempting a target and skipped out on his job, so Mark is looking for a more reliable replacement.

Eric

I've lived here since 1998. I spent 13 years at Microsoft as a developer and manager, concurrent with Ballmer's reign. I quit after seeing my third consecutive project cancelled, while my parents needed help, and my wife was getting stressed working at Seattle Public Schools. Since then, I have helped family and community while taking on side projects and volunteer work. I led the renovation of Meridian Playground, helped moderate the South Transfer Station design, helped advance the Green Lake Way road diet, and have guided several transportation and parks projects through neighborhood involvement. I wrote for Wallyhood for a while and was president of the Wallingford Community Council during the great recession, where thankfully, land use was not an issue. I'm an impatient moderate vegetarian who believes in practical win-win solutions.

This is too delightful! Thanks, Mark! I will have to pass by soon with my little ones.

Thanks! The only problem is that my kids still haven’t quite worked out they don’t own all the books inside it…..

What a great idea! Your upcycled library is lovely. Her’s to hoping many families out for a stroll with little ones will make their way to it.

Cute! Our neighbors have a “kids only” one that they put up at least a year ago. 52nd and Kensington.

    I love these things.

As for the truant librarian, someone may have assumed that the toy was part of the library collection, rather than part of the library.
