Pretty V1.1, Now With Crushed Bugs

  • Post author:

We’ve been busy crushing bugs on the redesigned Web site. Please let us know if you see more problems or have wishes for the site. The old template was craptastic so we were afraid to change things, but now we are liberated.

Here’s a list of semi-recent fixes:

  • Fonts and spacing everywhere should be correct- previously some fonts were squinty
  • The smartphone view is now updated as well, complete with a new banner
  • The sidebar widgets for comments and forums should work well
  • The search box now searches forums, comments, and articles with in-place results that can be sorted by date or relevance
  • Suggest a story and local links pages are updated
  • Forums are fixed up with an improved layout, like a shortcut menu and no randomly floating bullets
  • Links in articles are underlined to be more visible
  • The calendar page layout is fixed

Thoughts on further changes or general wishes from Wallyhood?

Eric

I've lived here since 1998. I spent 13 years at Microsoft as a developer and manager, concurrent with Ballmer's reign. I quit after seeing my third consecutive project cancelled, while my parents needed help, and my wife was getting stressed working at Seattle Public Schools. Since then, I have helped family and community while taking on side projects and volunteer work. I led the renovation of Meridian Playground, helped moderate the South Transfer Station design, helped advance the Green Lake Way road diet, and have guided several transportation and parks projects through neighborhood involvement. I wrote for Wallyhood for a while and was president of the Wallingford Community Council during the great recession, where thankfully, land use was not an issue. I'm an impatient moderate vegetarian who believes in practical win-win solutions.

Thank you. All this probably took more time than reader i magine.

I would like an update on Kitaro’s; Hawaiian Breeze and the Sutra yoga studio and restaurant.

Many readers are parents of Seattle Schools students. There is information about the negiotiating process which may impact the beginning of school. Maybe you could cover that.

Nice work! I echo comments of mine re time it took to do all this!

I also appreciate updates on the businesses mind mentioned. I was encouraged for a couple of days, when they were hauling out the contents of Kitaro. Of interest, here is an article about Kitaro from 2013 in Wallyhood!! Eugene Son was the stated owner at that time.

Good work and thank you for putting in the time this took to accomplish. The interface is much better.

One request is to put the login at the top. Minor, but…

    Oh, also more cowbell.

Thanks for the upgraded website page. Much more important & appreciated is the often great articles & pertinent neighborhood content, e.g..recently the Poo Tube info going right in front of our condo bldg. that I shared with all occupants, etc., etc. Keep up the great work! Thanks again.

Thanks Mino- Sutra is shutting down as the property is being redeveloped. One chef there is running harvest beat at the Wallingord Farmer’s Market. For the lot, no design plans submitted yet that I see. Hawaiian breeze I dunno about, not much for this old vegetarian. tips appreciated!

Thanks Rickvid- login is on the sidebar for forums and at the bottom left of every page. We keep it out of the top of the main page as we want to keep the focus on the content.

Thanks iowagirl- we will post on kitaro as soon as we know anything. Both Jordan and I couldn’t figure out much I’m afraid, as you can see from our recent articles. Again, tips appreciated!

Thanks Mike- glad you liked the article on our 400 million dollar poo tube. More high quality journalism like that to come…
