Harvest Breakfast No, JSIS Meeting Delayed, Harvest Festival Today

  • Post author:

The Harvest Breakfast scheduled for this morning by the WCSC is cancelled because their fridge broke. In other cancellation news, the teacher strike is resulting in the postponement of the the JSIS Playground meeting this Monday.

The Tilth Harvest Festival is not reliant on a fridge or teachers so it’s still on from 10 to 4 today. Check out chickens, goats, honeybees, and a rooster. If you’re interested in waterways or other Community Council doings, they’ll have a booth at the festival as well.

Teachers did community service on Friday after spending Wednesday and Thursday marching in circles. We got several reports of trash being picked up at parks and supplies being added to food banks. Mostly good vibes, although there was one ugly tale of a truck rolling coal at teachers and then video taping the reaction (which makes us want to kick their brass balls).

As an antidote, here’s the 2016 Prius design released on Wednesday, the first redesign of the car since 2009 (get used to the new look):

Back to the teacher strike: Contract negotiations are starting back up this weekend after being on hiatus the last 3 days. No indication as to what teachers will be doing on Monday if there’s no resolution, but probably back to walking in circles.

Eric

I've lived here since 1998. I spent 13 years at Microsoft as a developer and manager, concurrent with Ballmer's reign. I quit after seeing my third consecutive project cancelled, while my parents needed help, and my wife was getting stressed working at Seattle Public Schools. Since then, I have helped family and community while taking on side projects and volunteer work. I led the renovation of Meridian Playground, helped moderate the South Transfer Station design, helped advance the Green Lake Way road diet, and have guided several transportation and parks projects through neighborhood involvement. I wrote for Wallyhood for a while and was president of the Wallingford Community Council during the great recession, where thankfully, land use was not an issue. I'm an impatient moderate vegetarian who believes in practical win-win solutions.

Striking teachers from Hamilton International Middle School spent several hours Friday picking up falling apples at Meridian Playground and the Good Shepherd Center orchard. They also removed sod from around the trunks of several apple trees. Staff from City Fruit managed the enthusiastic volunteers.

Thank you to the HIMS teachers and staff for cleaning up Meridian Playground just in time for the Harvest Fest!

Thanks DR, clarity was a victim of squeezing the title to fit- I think I just fixed it. Also, your link is bad (2008?), people should just go here for updates:
