Community Events at the WCSC in September

September is upon us, which means it’s time to join in community to celebrate the harvest, enjoy the crisp Fall air and return to a place of learning. Check out these enjoyable & educational events this September at Wallingford Community Senior Center!

Bring the whole family to celebrate the season in the most delicious way! Join us for a harvest breakfast including a make-your-own breakfast burrito bar, muffins, fruit, and beverages! Afterwards, make sure to visit the 2015 Harvest Fair (10am – 4pm in Meridian Playground behind the Good Shepherd Center). Veggies and fruit generously provided by farmers of the Wallingford Farmer’s Market!

kubota 1Outing to Kubota Garden

Hidden in South Seattle, Kubota Garden is a stunning 20-acre landscape that blends Japanese garden concepts with native Northwest plants. The gardens are a spectacular setting of hills and valleys interlaced with streams, waterfalls, ponds, bridges, and rock outcroppings with a rich array of plant material. Guided tour provided.

Thursday, September 17th, 1:00-4:00 pm. Van departs from WCSC promptly at 1 PM. $12 members/ $15 public

Fall Prevention Event

Are you or someone you know at risk of injury from a fall? Learn how medications and vision changes can impact your risk of falling. At this Fall Prevention Event, presented by the University of Washington Department of Physical Therapy, you will also:

  • Receive a free screening to determine your risk of falling
  • Get tips on how to reduce that risk by exercising and making your home safer
  • Receive informational handouts about these topics to take home with you

power of appreciationThe Power of Appreciation

Learn how expressions of appreciation (both given and received) can reduce stress and improve physical and mental health. We will talk about the key ingredients for giving authentic messages of appreciation, and the different ways people like to receive appreciation. With Margy Bresslour, M. Ed., CEO of “Moving Messages”.

Get an introduction to tablets using the Library’s iPads! We will also explore topics chosen by the class such as social media, tools for travel, or free library resources for tablets. With the Seattle Public Library.
