Caroling for the Holiday House Tonight

20151017_224302_resized_resized-(1)If you hear some caroling tonight (Wednesday, Dec 16), or want to join in some caroling, it’s for a good cause. They’ll be raising money as a gift to Patty and Joe, who lost their “holiday house” in a fire last month. Bette and Patti write:

Come caroling with us for a good cause.  The “Holiday House” on Latona was recently gutted by fire. Its longtime residents, Patty and Joe, had insurance, but – as we all know – insurance inevitably falls short.

That’s why we’re holding a caroling party to benefit the couple who’ve contributed so much to our community – not just with jaw-dropping, kid-loving Halloween and Christmas decor but also with summer roses and tomatoes free for the taking.

We’ll meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16 at the junction of Latona and NE 42nd St. (under bette’s big tree!).  From there, we’ll walk down Latona, singing carols and gathering donations at houses along the way.

We were originally asked to keep this a surprise, but I ran into Bette on the street earlier today, and she said that KING 5 news is likely to be along for the ride, as well, so cats out of the bag.

Tra-la-la!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Hey Neighbors! There’s still time! The fund for the Holiday House is still growing and now closely approaching an exciting new goal ( can’t reveal it here as the total amount will still be a surprise for Patty and Joe’s Holiday, Christmas. ! Thanks to a generous neighborhood!
