Blackout

  • Post author:

It’s a whopper of a power outage, according to Seattle City Light’s outage map, from Green Lake up to Capitol Hill and from Fremont over to Laurelhurst, impacting over 20,000 people. According to the city, the power is likely to stay off until around 6 pm tonight. I haven’t heard word on the cause, yet, but folks all of Wallingford reported hearing a loud boom just as the power went out, so likely a transformer blowout.

Update: Anita Elder says: “Komo news sent me a msg…We just heard “equipment failure” caused the outages. Seattle City Light hopes to have power restored around 3 p.m.”

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I live in part of that red zone.. off Stone and we have power. Tho I would rather have not had my car stolen twice this past summer/fall and be without power if we look at the big picture.

Yes, something went flash and boom and the substation (or whatever the electrical installation is) near Pacific and I-5, as witnessed by folks breakfasting at Voula’s.

Lots of new construction, no info on upgrades. Just look across the street from Essential Bakery or how about UW or how about Eastlake, etc???? Unfortunately, infrastructure may not keep up with construction. The outage caused me hassles, but not like Aleppo, so count ones blessings.

As of 1:30 PM we still do not have power in our house. Grandson removed all the lights bulb and unplugged every thing in the house to allow the power to reset. When can we expect power?
