Dump Park

  • Post author:

A big thank you to whoever added the new park at 35th and Woodlawn to Apple Maps, dubbing it Dump Park:

Turns out anyone can add locations to Apple Maps’ database–just visit mapsconnect.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID and follow the instructions to “add a place.”

Best as I can tell, the City of Seattle hasn’t designated it with an official name (it’s just referred to as an “open space” east of transfer station facility), so Dump Park sounds good to me.

(Thanks to John Cornicello for spotting and posting this to the Wallingford / Fremont Facebook Community.)

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Is that the place where our “urban explorers” will go to take a public dump?

Why not “Gertrude Park”? That name would go with J.P. Patches Place to the west…

It’s already entered into Google Maps – someone named Melissa put up quite a nice little review. It’s just called “Park” there, though.

      Was just called “Park”.

I checked with SPU and Seattle Parks and that space is not and apparently will not become a city park. It is owned and maintained by SPU and is considered an open space to them. SPU is going to look into giving it a better name than Dump Park, though.

Agreed on “Dump Park”! Love the park, by the way…

You can tell the psyche of Seattle citizens by preferring a name like Dump Park over a name like Woodlawn Park. Can’t imagine why visitors often refer to Seattleites though unfairly as basically yucky.
