I’m with Cascade Bicycle Club and event assistant for the 3rd annual Emerald City Ride which will take place on Sunday, April 8th.

I wanted to reach out to make sure the neighborhood is in the know to ensure a safe and welcoming event. We are expecting between 8,000 – 10,000 bicycle riders on the course from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. We will not be closing any city streets and will have Seattle Police stationed at all major intersections to assist with traffic flow.

Specifically for the Wallingford/Fremont area: riders will be exiting off of the Aurora Bridge to Bridge Way N, N 38th St, Stone Way and onto N Northlake Way to the I-5 Express lanes via 7th Avenue. We will be holding a rest stop at the Ivars Salmon House parking lot. Everything will be wrapped up by 9:30 a.m., so it should not have a heavy impact on your Sunday morning.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
