Farmers Market Opens Wednesday

Jack Jack May 14, 2018 2 Comments

With summer just around the corner, you know that the opening of the Wallingford Farmers Market cannot be far off, either. The first day of operations is this coming Wednesday, May 16. As has been the case for the past several years, the market will be held at Meridian Park at 50th St. and Meridian Ave. Hours will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Wednesday through September 26.

Parking:

  • You are requested to park along Meridian Ave
  • There is no parking in the Good Shepherd Center Parking lot
  • There is no parking on Sunnyside Ave.

The market is run by the Seattle Farmers Market Association which also runs the Ballard and Madrona markets with a mission to promote local small farmers and craftspeople.

Quoting from the SFMA website:

Mission: The mission of the Seattle Farmers Market Association is to provide fun and rewarding venues for Washington state small farms and artisans to bring their highest quality, locally-grown and crafted products to urban residents. Our goal is to help our vendors be successful. Our intention is to facilitate a mutually beneficial connection between our community’s residents and the individuals who steward our local farmland and provide a variety of cultural arts.

History: Founded in 1990 at the Fremont Sunday Market, we were established as the first neighborhood farmers market in Seattle comprised only of Washington farmers since the 1950’s. Our purpose then, as now, is to bring the neighborhood together by creating a local marketplace. In providing a regular event, where diverse people meet and develop positive relationships, we can contribute to building strong communities and enhance the quality of life for everyone in our region.

For people who are not using a car to get to the market:

There are crosswalks with begging buttons at
    – 50th St and Meridian Ave
    – 50th St and Sunnyside Ave
    – 45th St and Meridian Ave
    – 45th St and Sunnyside Ave

If you are cycling from the Wallingford Greenway (44th St) then Meridian Ave is also a good option.

The 62 bus will stop at the market (Meridian Ave & 49th St). The 44 stops 3 blocks from the market at 45th St and Corliss Ave.
