Summer doesn’t officially start for another few weeks, but the Pacific Northwest Shop will begin celebrating early with their Second Saturdays of Summer event kicking off this weekend. Select groups of local makers will be coming to the shop each second Saturday in June (9th), July (14th), and August (11th) from 11 am to 3pm. They’ll showcase their work and chat with customers.
The event this Saturday, June 9th, will feature Joe Chocolates, Ooliva Soaps and Skincare, and Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie:
The soaps and skincare products made by Gina at Ooliva are created in small batches in Seattle with as many ethically sourced, organic, fair trade and non-GMO ingredients as possible.
Joe Chocolates was started by Sam and Peter when they were undergrads at the University of Washington. Each bag of chocolates is the coffee-equivalent of two 8-ounce cups of coffee! Joe Chocolates’ line of goodies is produced by hand under one roof in South Seattle.
Established in 1979, Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie is located in an historic building where the island town of Vashon was originally founded. Today, the Roasterie still uses its original vintage roaster to create legendary coffee from a blend organic, certified organic, fair trade and direct trade beans.
Stop by the Pacific Northwest Shop between 11am and 3pm this Saturday to meet these local creators and learn about the products they make!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
