Christmas Carols Thursday

  • Post author:

Reverand Tiare Mathison of the Wallingford Presbyterian Church (1414 N. 42nd Street) invites everyone to an hour or singing Christmas carols and other holiday songs, “favorites both sacred and not”, Thursday, December 19th at 7 pm.

Which reminds me, when I was growing up in New Haven, I remember a few times Christmas Carolers would go from house to house singing songs from the sidewalk. I’m pretty sure we shut off the porch light, leaving only our menorah lit in the window, but in my adulthood, the notion of people ambling from house to house throughout the neighborhood singing seems quite beautiful, whether or not the holiday they’re singing about is my own.

Is anyone planning to carol this year? Can I help get the word out? What does one do if carolers come to one’s door?

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
