No Mutiny at the Bounty

Gary Shigenaka August 4, 2022 3 Comments

(Editor’s note:  Here’s another post by our resident wine maven, Jenn Shernoff)

What happened to The Bounty? It seems like just yesterday (a mere couple of months ago) we were promoting a launch and community event at the Bounty, and just like that it closed down and reopened. At the intersection of Stone Way and 45th, the reopened establishment is now Kdessert. The sudden shift in ownership took many locals by surprise, and the recent reopening is a welcome relief to the Wallingford community.

The new owner, Gina, said Kdessert will serve a variety of Asian style drinks and food. Upon a recent visit, I was eager to try the bubble tea but found the machine not yet in use. Gina’s son, working during the opening, said the menu focuses on the “Croffle” which is a waffle topped with your choice of fruit, whipped cream, etc. I’m certain the Hamilton & Lincoln students will devour many Croffles once the new school year begins. Coffee will be provided by Caffe Appassionato, yet patrons will have to go elsewhere for their beer and wine as Kdessert no longer serves alcohol.

The Bounty served our community for more than 12 years. James, the original owner, said it was time to make a change now that he has a young family and other full time obligations. I’m personally sad to see the once laid back gem go, yet optimistic for something new (Croffles anyone?) to pique our interest.
