Work Continues Along Bus Route 44 Corridor

Jack Jack October 21, 2022 Comments are off

[Editor’s note: Since 2019, planning and work to improve transit time and safety along the route 44 corridor has been ongoing. The information below, regarding work to begin as early as next week, comes to us from Darrell Bulmer, Communications and Outreach Lead, at the Seattle Dept. of Transportation (SDOT). More information is available here.]

Pedestrian Improvements in Wallingford

As soon as next week, crews are expected to shift into the Wallingford area and begin sidewalk, curb ramp, and crosswalk work. Work will begin on N 45th St between Interlake Ave N and Wallingford Ave N. This work includes:

  • Cutting existing sidewalk in preparation for removal of worn segments
  • Curb ramp and sidewalk demolition and reconstruction
  • Crosswalk grinding and replacement

We will not demolish sidewalks and curb ramps in the busiest sections of Wallingford until after Halloween. We will kick off at the southwest corner of N 45th St and Woodlawn Ave N. Crews will also be saw-cutting existing sidewalks on the northern sidewalks west of Wallingford Ave N. This work is expected to finish within a week. Business access will be maintained.

See the diagram below for more details.

We are working with neighborhood businesses and the contractor to ensure access to businesses remains open during this work. People walking and rolling on N 45th St are encouraged to follow all detour signage as sidewalk access may shift during this work. Thank you for your patience as we make these improvements!

During this construction please expect:

  • Typical construction weekday work hours of 7 AM to 5 PM
  • Temporary disruptions to on-street parking and sidewalks
  • Detours for people walking, biking, and driving
  • Noise, dust, and vibration during work hours

Business access will be maintained.

Weekend Work at Midvale and 46th

As early as this Saturday, November 5, construction will be taking place in the bus-only lanes at N 46th and Midvale Ave N. Crews will be removing existing concrete panels and pouring new ones in the bus-only lanes.

There will be traffic detours in place through 12 PM on Saturday, November 5. Westbound traffic will shift to the south side of the N 46th St. All eastbound traffic on N 46th St will be detoured onto Woodland Park Ave N to N 45th St, as illustrated in the graphic below. This work will take place during the day and is weather dependent and subject to change.
