Whatever Happened to Hashtag and Stone Way Cafe?

Lara Lara February 5, 2023 1 Comment

If you’ve been a resident of Wallingford for more than a few years, you have likely stepped foot into or at least seen two very popular and beloved retail spots: Hashtag and Stone Way Café on the 3500 block on Stone Way.

Both locations closed in 2020 and 2022 respectively, to make way for a structure by the name of 35 Stone, previously “Living Stone”. The 5-story building will be a “workplace and retail experience… [and] a showcase for Seattle’s Living Building Pilot Program”. Wallyhood wrote about the plans back in 2019 when demolition was supposed to occur. Currently, the project is slated to be completed in 2024, contain 174 parking stalls, and be an example of green building, particular in its energy and water reduction efforts. It’s worth noting that businesses on this block (SBP, Joule, The Whale Wins, EVO) are still open for business during construction.

Hashtag has since moved over to Nickerson St near the Fremont Bridge. And Stone Way Café plans to reopen across the street in the old Daly’s Paint and Decoration location, though they also seem to be behind schedule. As of last November, they were still hard at work getting up and running. I reached out for an update but didn’t hear back. Do you have any current information? We’d love to know!

In the meantime, let’s hope Stone Way Café still serves their breakfast burrito when they reopen… I hear it’s the best one in the neighborhood. New breakfast date spot?

35 Stone city permit and property records: visit web6.seattle.gov/dpd/edms/ and use record # 3029128-lu.

    Wow! Super cool:

Rainwater – a precious resource in the Pacific NW – is captured in a 250,000-gallon cistern, filtered and reused for toilet flushing and on site irrigation.
