Halloween in Wallingford

Adult & Child trick or treating
In the blink of an eye summer is over and we have hurtled into fall full force. School is back in session, the air is chilly, and ghosts, goblins, and gourds are popping up everywhere!

How you partake in spooky season in Wallingford might depend on your age… Or not! Because age is arbitrary, right?

One of my personal favorite Halloween activities in our ‘hood is the family-friendly Haunted Alley up in Tangletown. This impressively thought-out charity event is put on by local highschoolers and a volunteer group with entertainment, activities, and spectacles in an immersive experience. There’s a little bit for everyone, though it’s extra special for families with younger children. The third annual Haunted Alley is taking place on October 28 and 29th from 5-8pm. They’ll be accepting donations for the FamilyWorks food bank – please consider supporting this wonderful, hyper-local event!

And then of course there is the classic trick-or-treating on Halloween itself. As fellow resident Jilla Simmons recently put it on the Wallingford & Fremont Community Facebook group: “We usually get some tiny spooky toddlers trick or treating with their equally spooky parents. They often come around 5-6 pm. When they’re done scaring everyone and getting treats they go home to bed by 7 at the latest. Then there are no trick-or-treaters for a while till about 8:30-10pm, when the scary teenage vampires, goblins, and ghosts of Halloween past come around with their big bulging pillowcases asking for treats. Boooohaha!😨🤡👻🧛‍♀️ Be warned🧙‍♀️“.

There is an organized children’s parade for said trick-or-treating taking place on Halloween, October 31, 2023 at 5:30pm starting at N 40th St and Midvale Ave N. For more info, check out the post on the Wallingford & Fremont Community FB page.

Or do you get your spooky kick from flora? 🌵 Urban Earth, our resident nursery, is partnering with other plant shops in Fremont and Wallingford to host the first ever Plant-or-Treat event! 🌿 On October 28th, stop by any participating location to pick up a map and stamp card, then tour as many plant shops as you can during the day, enjoying fun promotions and freebies as you go. Who knows, there may even be prizes to be had for those who make it to every shop on the list…

However you choose to celebrate, stay safe, stay dry, and compliment someone on their costume!
