Green gifts for the holidays

Ellen Robinson Ellen Robinson December 13, 2023 Comments are off

I believe that plants add so much to our lives. Plants are a meaningful gift that will continue to grow and provide beauty in the future. Unlike other gifts that are made of plastic or shipped across the globe, live plants are a sustainable gift that should never go out of style! While I usually focus on outdoor edible plants, I have been learning more about how indoor plants can boost mood, reduce stress, and eliminate air pollutants. Indoor plants don’t just look good—they can make us feel good, too.

Lucky for us, Wallingford has a few small businesses that are focused on plants!

They all have different specialties and a wide variety of selections that should help you find a gift for any gardener on your list!

Urban Earth Nursery 1051 N 35TH ST (arguably more Fremont than Wallingford) has pulled together a clever gift guide that can help you find gifts for everyone “from plant newbies to seasoned green thumbs.” They are currently having a winter sale with deals both on-line and in store.

Seattle Plant Daddy 1325 N. 46th St is focused on indoor tropical plants as well as cacti and succulents. They have hundreds of unique plant species in stock and they restock twice weekly. It is like a little jungle in there! They have a Seattle wholesaler and are currently providing 30% of their own starts and propagations from their greenhouse.

Cedarhouse Flowers 1621 N 45th St have some “Christmas classics” available right now. Poinsettia, amaryllis, and Christmas cactuses are all in bloom! They also have a selection of wreaths and other greens for decorating your mantel. If you need fresh flowers for a centerpiece for your table, they can do custom designs as well.

All three of these locations also offer classes and other special events throughout the year. If you cannot make up your mind on a plant, maybe consider a gift card for a class for the gardener in your life.

When you shop local, you’re making an investment in your neighborhood and community. Considering gifting plants this holiday season from our Wallingford businesses.
