Open House at Fremont Community School. Child Care and Preschool located in Lower Wallingford

Tara December 21, 2023 Comments are off

Fremont Community School will be hosting Open Houses:

Saturday, January 6, and Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 10 am-noon

Fremont Community School (FCS) is a small, independent, nonprofit located in Lower Wallingford which provides care for children from three months through five years old. FCS offers parents a choice of full-time childcare at our Sycamore location or part-time preschool at our Orchard location. (Our preschoolers have options for afternoon care at Tara’s Tots, our sister school next door.) Both of our locations focus on getting children outside and growing their gross and fine motor skills through a joyful, play-based philosophy, which gives children the option to explore the arts in a process-oriented manner while allowing them to experience joy and freedom that is the cornerstone of loving to learn.

Our preschool offers children various activities from baking to sewing to painting, arts and crafts, and simple woodworking. Circle time weaves songs and poetry together into our morning program, and through our tradition of telling stories by heart, we enrich the children’s imagination. Our curriculum has a strong element of building language skills. The children are also introduced to Spanish through songs and keywords interjected into our storytelling.

Research has proven that in these early years (2 ½ through 5 years), children need to focus on social and emotional skills, honing their self-regulation while being immersed in the arts through a wide array of activities. According to Anna Reyner, MA, “Current neuroscience tells us that young brains build new neural pathways most rapidly and efficiently during active sensory motor engagement with the environment,” and giving children the freedom they need to play is the quickest way to build social and emotional intelligence.

With the stress of the pandemic and living in a city, young children need to be in the community and to have access to free, unbridled play in a safe and fun environment. Our families have reported back to us about what it means to their family to be part of a community again that offers opportunities to meet up on “Family Saturdays,” engage in Seasonal Festivals, and participate in “Parent Events” with their children.

Additionally, FCS also offers “Play Days” for working parents who need care over the winter and spring breaks.

Please join us at one of our Open Houses to hear more about our schools and see firsthand what a playful learning environment we have for children.
