It’s time to pull out the elbow grease– the Green Seattle Partnership is looking for volunteers Friday morning to help pull out ivy and blackberry bushes at Gas Works Park.

Event details:

Friday, Feb. 7

9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Meet on N. Northlake Way, west of Meridian Ave. N on the east side of Gas Works Park.

Parking is available on N Northlake Way or in the Gas Works parking lot.

For more info contact the event host, Jim Corson: [email protected].

Those interested should register at Green Seattle’s website, or at this link. Make sure you’re registered, because if the weather is bad volunteers will be notified via email if the event is canceled around 8:00 a.m.

Helpers of all ages are wanted to help finish removing blackberries and ivy at Waterway 19 in the northeast corner of Gas Works before wood chips are placed in the area.

Gloves and all tools needed are provided, event host Jim Corson said, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own gloves, which might be warmer.

If attending, make sure to dress for the weather– the forecast high for Friday is 39 degrees, with freezing temperatures and potentially snow projected for the days preceding. Bring sturdy shoes or boots, as well as water and a snack for the mid-morning break.

No experience is required, and training is provided on-site. If you want to be proactive and prepare yourself for what to expect, Green Seattle has videos on their YouTube channel on how to remove ivy and blackberry.

More information can be found on Green Seattle’s website.
