Elizabeth Connolly Elizabeth Connolly May 9, 2025 Leave a Comment

Our neighborhood high school, Lincoln High School, has a fantastic performing arts program. With spring semester coming to an end, it’s the season for some great musical performances, right here in the neighborhood! All events will be held in the auditorium at Lincoln, entrance on Woodlawn Avenue near N 44th Street.

Theater

First, the theater arts program is putting on the musical Chicago: Teen Edition, this weekend and next. Tickets are $22 and available here. Shows will be Friday, May 9, Saturday, May 10, Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16, all at 7 pm; Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, May 18 at 2 pm.

On show nights Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 17, you can buy a Chicago Dog to eat before the show. Purchase as an Add-On when you buy your ticket, or any future time. Select the ticket date to add the Chicago Dog to your order. Gluten-free and vegan options available upon request. Pre-orders preferred.

Choir

Next comes the choir concert on Wednesday, May 28, from 7-8:30 pm.

Orchestra

Orchestra Director Vicky Greenbaum shared the following details about the orchestra program and upcoming concert:

The orchestra program has three orchestras classes: Symphony, the most advanced, playing top level collegiate repertoire; Chamber, advanced, playing zesty demanding repertoire; and Concert, playing introductory repertoire to prepare for moving up to Chamber and Symphony.
The final concert on Thursday, May 29 will feature senior Sofi Pallais-Aks performing Lalo Symphonie Espagnole movement and more. In addition to Lalo, Symphony Orchestra will play movement 4 from Dvorak Symphony #9 (original version as the composer wrote it). Andy Kangas, senior cellist, will perform Boccherini Concerto for cello and orchestra. In addition, Chamber Orchestra will perform Brandenburg Concerto 3 and Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto, featuring 9th grade soloist Lexi Soge. Concert Orchestra will perform lively works, including Bainbridge Island, a modern showpiece.
The evening will run from 7-8:30 pm. Admission is free, and there will be food for sale, including banh mi sandwiches and sweet treats. All proceeds support Performing Arts at Lincoln.

Band

In the first weeks of June are the band performances. The Jazz Band Concert is Monday, June 2, 7-9 pm. The Band Concert will take place the following week, on Monday, June 9, 7-8:30 pm.

Come out and enjoy some wonderful performances by our neighborhood’s talented young musicians, singers, and actors!
