This is something of an annual public service announcement for Wallingford: reminder that this coming weekend is the Seattle Tilth Edible Plant Sale at Meridian Park. There is a Friday evening pre-sale, followed by the Saturday and Sunday main events. On the one hand, it is a sure harbinger that spring is here to stay (with one or two exceptions, of course). On the other hand, it clogs the streets in the central part of Wallingford, and makes parking difficult in the area surrounding Meridian Park. Please plan accordingly.
For those of you who are headed to the sale to jump start your gardens (which Wallyhood recommends since by late summer, you won’t be able to afford any fresh vegetables at the store), don’t forget that the Good Shepherd P-Patch will be fueling your wait in the line and your frenzied plant shopping with its annual bake sale. Full disclosure: I am a longtime gardener in this p-patch, so yes, I am a proverbial homeboy. The community garden, which borders Meridian Park to the south, takes advantage of the captive audience at the plant sale with its one and only fundraising event. The proceeds pay for all those sexy gardening accoutrements like compost, wood chips, and hoses. Please buy early and often; you’ll work off all those frivolous calories planting your new veggies!
