Green Lake Summer Water Camps Still Available

Green Lake isn’t really Wallingford…but it’s close! And as such, many of us take advantage of its proximity and amenities to enjoy one of Seattle’s favorite parks. One of my old parental colleagues, Tami Oki (our kids went through John Stanford International School, Hamilton Middle School, and Ingraham High School together, quite a long time ago), sent a note about summer camps at Green Lake sponsored by Seattle Parks & Recreation. It’s been ages, but I remember what a scramble it was to piece together a mosaic of summer camps once school let out—and I’m sure that hasn’t changed. Here are some opportunities available close to our neighborhood that take advantage of that great local asset, Green Lake. Tami, who works for the City, writes:

Green Lake Small Craft Center is a Seattle Parks facility, and we do a great job getting kids out on the water and teaching water safety.

Seattle Canoe & Kayak Club’s popular Summer Paddling Camp is open for registration! This year we are finally out of the containers and in the new boathouse! Paddlers will have the opportunity to try recreational canoes and kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, surf-skis, and racing canoes and kayaks. All camps include the Washington State water safety curriculum and units on the climate and ecology of Green Lake. All campers are invited to our weekly community event – Friday night Duck Island races and BBQ! Financial aid is available through the City of Seattle. If your income exceeds the City guidelines, Boating Scholarships exist with 10% – 40% awards. Please e-mail [email protected] for information. [Week-long camps starting June 23, 2025, 8:30 am–4 pm, for ages 10-14.]

We also have Adventure Camp [Canoeing, kayaking, and sailing as well as tennis, golf, soccer, and other activities, 8:30 am–4 pm, for ages 11-14] and Sailing Camp [12 noon–4 pm, for ages 11-17].

We’d love for your camper (and their friends) to join us this summer! We’re hoping to get as many kids on the water as possible, and we hope Wallingford kids are some of them.
