At Wallyhood, we have a rule that our stories are focused on the Wallingford neighborhood. After all, there are plenty of other places to get information and misinformation that pertain to other neighborhoods or to the city at large. Fortunately, we interpret this rule liberally, and occasionally we literally and journalistically wander beyond the traditionally interpreted boundaries of the ’hood.

This past week I walked to the U District light rail station to meet my son for dinner up on Capitol Hill, and I was a little surprised and delighted to see a pop-up Mexican food (tacos, burritos, chiles relleños, quesadillas) stand just on the other side of I-5 on N 45th Street, in the parking lot that served the now defunct Petco. I also noticed another stand, this one grilling sausages, outside of the Neptune Theatre near the light rail station. This reflects what I think is a positive trend of more street vendors catering to evening and late-night crowds near entertainment venues and sports arenas. After all, people get hungry after a night of carousing, listening to music, or cheering on our perennially mediocre Seattle teams. And it sure beats having dark, empty parking lots and street corners as you head home.
As I had a full dinner up on Cap Hill with my kid, I wasn’t of a mind to eat even more, so I can’t provide an on-the-spot review. I did ask the folks running the taco stand if they were going to be around every night, and they said yes. If you find yourself at the Blue Moon or Ladd & Lass in the warm evenings to come, let us know in the comments what you think of the fare at these places!

I read a recent article in the Seattle Times about the explosion of unlicensed pop up food vendors and food carts. All licensed vendors must display the Department of Health food rating placard (the green card with the rating) at the business. I am speaking in general and not in particular about this business.
Here's a link for the DOH website for more informaiton: https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dph/health-safety/food-safety/search-restaurant-safety-ratings#/
Unless you know there is an issue with this particular food vendor, you shouldn’t post this in the article about them.
I respectfully disagree. It's good to be aware of the regulations. We can of course choose to eat the food if they have the green card or not. And she also said she wasn't referring to any business specifically. Personally, I would lean toward street vendors and food trucks that have been inspected and rated.
