The Wayland Mill, the latest venture from local restaurateur Yasuaki Saito—best known for nearby favorites Saint Bread on Portage Bay and Tivoli in Fremont—is now open in the newly developed Northlake Commons on Pacific Street, just steps from the Burke-Gilman Trail and Lake Union.
Known for blending cultures and flavors, Saito describes The Wayland Mill’s offerings as Yoshoku (洋食), a style of Western cuisine filtered through a distinctly Japanese perspective. The result is a creative menu of baked goods and brunch fare, each dish crafted with unique flavor profiles that feel both familiar and refreshingly new.

Beyond the food, similar to Saint Bread, The Wayland Mill is designed with community in mind. The café offers an inviting atmosphere, featuring indoor seating with an open kitchen and a relaxed vibe, plus outdoor tables and access to the Commons’ expansive shared courtyard—ideal for lounging with a latte and a view of the lake.
Its location is a strategic win, especially for cyclists, runners, and walkers coming off the Burke-Gilman. Whether you’re grabbing a quick morning coffee, refueling after a trail run, or catching up with friends over brunch, The Wayland Mill is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Currently, the café is open Wednesday through Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm, with plans to expand hours and offerings soon.
