The Roaring Twenties Speakeasy Cocktails and Canapes take two!

  • Post author:

If you missed the fun and action last fall at Historic Wallingford’s Roaring Twenties Speakeasy event, your chance to join in this year is on Sunday, September 14th, from 4:30-6:30 pm at the iconic Murphy’s Pub, 1928 N 45th Street. Even their address fits the theme of the 1920s!

Historic Wallingford hosts this immersive 1920s prohibition-era experience and invites the community to don their finest vintage attire while supporting local historic preservation efforts. The event features live period entertainment by Milo Petersen and Elizabeth Perera, as well as appetizers, cocktails, and dance music from the 1920s. A silent auction filled with local treasures and experiences is the focus for fundraising, while raising some fun! Spencer Gordon’s vintage Model A Ford Phaeton was the life of the party last year, and returns this year, hopefully with a friend from Evergreen A’s Model A Club. This year, a touch of 1920s interest in spiritualism will add to the authentic feel of the event, with tarot readings by Evan J. Peterson.

Last year, the team at Murphy’s put out a great spread, and the cozy atmosphere simulated the hideaway Speakeasy watering holes of the 1920s. Thank you, Murphy’s Pub! Take a look at these photos from the 2024 event, taken by Ron Waldman.

Jameson Irish Whiskey is a sponsor again this year and will provide a basket of goodies for a prize drawing. Last year, local and some not-so-local businesses, as well as community members, donated to the silent auction, offering a broad array of tempting items to bid on to raise funds for the advocacy efforts of Historic Wallingford. The fundraiser was a success, and we could not have done it without the community support. A silent auction is again in development. If you are interested in donating to the silent auction—perhaps you can purchase a gift certificate at a local business, or you might have access to some experiential activities—please email Historic Wallingford. Donors will receive acknowledgement in a future Wallyhood post.

Early bird tickets are available here for $50 through late August. The fundraising will directly support Historic Wallingford’s mission to celebrate the neighborhood’s architectural heritage, community stories, and advocacy. The event welcomes neighbors, friends, and anyone enthusiastic about Seattle’s history. Historic Wallingford encourages attendees to embrace the speakeasy spirit with 1920s attire, though period dress is not required.

Come join the party and let’s have fun!
