Want to get out on Lake Union without the usual rental shop routine? Buoy Water Club has set up a self-service kayak and SUP station at 910 N Northlake Way, making it easier than ever to grab some paddle time.
The setup is pretty straightforward: $25 an hour or $54 for a monthly membership if you’re planning to make this a regular thing. Life jackets are included, and you can rent from sunrise to sunset daily. Just download the app and then unlock and go.
You’ll launch from the Lake Washington Rowing Club dock, so there are a few neighborly guidelines to keep in mind. The rowing crews have been here for years and typically practice weekdays from 5–9 am and 3–8 pm, plus 5–11 am on weekends. Just give them space when they’re launching or landing, and make sure you’re back before the gate locks at sunset or 8 pm.
The dock is meant for launching and landing, not hanging out, so keep it moving to be considerate of others using the space.
While you’re paddling around, you might want to check out the Saltwater Soundwalk podcast from Seattle’s Art Beat program. It explores the stories behind our city’s waterways and the people who’ve shaped them—a nice complement to being out on the water yourself.
It’s great to see more convenient options for getting on Lake Union. Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that don’t require a lot of planning ahead.
