The following announcement was received by Wallyhood from Rehana Lanewala, Director of Development & Communications at FamilyWorks.

Come celebrate with us as we break ground on the renovation of FamilyWorks’ Wallingford Food Bank!

This project is all about creating a welcoming space where neighbors can find nourishment, connection, and care. We’d love for you to be a part of this joyful moment as we take this next step together.

Where: Wallingford Food Bank, 1501 N 45th Street
When: Friday, October 24, 2025

Event Schedule:

  • Check-in: 11:30 am – 12:00 pm
  • Program: 12:00 – 12:30 pm
  • Mingling, Conversation & Refreshments: 12:30 – 2:00 pm

Attendees will include City of Seattle Councilmembers Sara Nelson, Maritza Rivera, and Alexis Mercedes Rinck, and King County Councilmember Jorge Barón, as well as FamilyWorks supporters like you.

This project is only possible because of extraordinary community investment from the City of Seattle, federal Community Project Funding secured through Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal’s tireless advocacy, generous grant funding from the Washington Department of Commerce, steadfast support from corporate and foundation partners, and the generosity of neighbors like you who have stepped forward to ensure this food bank remains a place of nourishment, dignity, and connection.

This investment sends a powerful message: our community is stepping up together to ensure that no one goes without food or support.

At a time when families are dealing with the impacts of federal cuts to our social safety net, combined with rising costs, this effort represents more than just a building renovation. It builds a stronger foundation for the future so that FamilyWorks’ food bank can continue serving with dignity and compassion for decades to come. Thank you for being a part of these efforts.

We would be truly honored to celebrate this milestone with you. Please RSVP to let us know if we can count on your attendance.

Also, just so you’re aware, we’ve temporarily moved the food bank to 4318 Stone Way N (the old Stoneway Hardware location) so that our community can still access food during construction. We were temporarily closed from October 6th to October 17th while we moved everything over and got the temp site up and running, but we reopened on October 20th with the same food bank hours as at our Wallingford location.
