Wallingford Photographs Wallingford for Wallyhood

Look, let’s be honest. The theme on this blog is…not entirely up to the latest design standards.

No, it’s “only a mother can love it” ugly.

And I feel comfortable saying that because I designed it. I cobbled together the Wallyhood banner back in 2008 by photoshopping the letters from the Food Giant’s old Wallingford sign into an approximation of the iconic Hollywood sign, dragged them onto a photo I found somewhere of Gas Works and then, in what I considered a clever move, placed a little dog where the dot before the org would go. Blog!

But 17(!) years later, it’s time for a spruce up. And that is where you come in. We’re going to replace the theme completely with a new look-and-feel, but we need to anchor it with a gorgeous, friendly, homey, Wallingfordy photograph at the top of the page. And nothing would make us happier than if someone from Wallingford would let us use their work on our site.

So, if you have a photograph that would work as a website banner that represents Wallingford to you, we would be grateful if you would let us use it. We don’t have any set notions of what it means to be Wallingfordy, so sky’s the limit. Comfy craftsman bungalow with an eclectic garden? Kites flying over Gas Works? The Good Shepherd Center in autumn? You show us!

The only guidance we’ll provide is that it should be roughly 16:9, so it can stretch across the width of the site.

If you have something you think we could use, please email it to [email protected]. Thanks in advance, neighbor!

(The cute little logo you see there was by ex-Wallyhood resident Heidi Smets. Thanks, Heidi!)

Jordan

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I love the simplicity of the current logo. Thanks for making it all that time ago!
