It is that time of year: parties, open houses, and dancing the night away! Maybe you’re feeling a little blue before the holidays—because you have not treated yourself to something new (or my case, something not-so-new) this year.
You are so in luck, since the Assistance League Thrift Store is having its fourth annual Cashmere and Luxury Event starting next week. From Thursday, December 4th, through Saturday, December 13th, the shop will feature cashmere clothing and other luxury items that they collect from donations all year long to save up for this fabulous event that everyone waits for.
Did you know cashmere wool is made from the hair of cashmere goats? These special goats originated in the Himalayan region, including the Tibetan highlands. Many areas of the world are now raising these goats for their wool, including here in the United States. However, Mongolia produces the best quality cashmere because its harsh winters cause the goats’ coats to grow denser in order to keep them warm and dry. Cashmere is one of the most expensive wools, and it is known for its exceptionally soft feel. Cashmere appears most often in sweaters, coats, and scarves. I will have to admit that I had no idea that cashmere wool comes from the hair of a goat.
If you have never been into this unique boutique of a thrift store in Wallingford, this may be the time. The best part about shopping here is that your money goes to a great cause, and all the staff who serve you are volunteers.
The Assistance League Thrift Store is located at 1415 N 45th Street, and is open Thursday and Friday 12–4 pm, and Saturday 10 am–4 pm. AL is a 501(c)(3) charitable, nonprofit organization.
