Rust on the Water

Just in time to add some festive color to your holiday cocktails, Seattle Public Utilities announced that they are…

…making adjustments to water operations that may temporarily affect drinking water in some North Seattle neighborhoods. If you live in the potentially affected area (shown in orange on the map), you may notice your tap water looks discolored at times over the next few days. The water is still safe to use, and the discoloration should clear on its own within 1–3 days.

What to do if you see discolored water:
  • Wait until the water clears before drinking or preparing food
  • Running cold water for a few minutes may help it clear faster
Why this is happening:
SPU is adjusting how water moves through the system to help manage the region’s water supply. These changes can temporarily stir up sediment in pipes, causing discoloration.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
