Come Wassail the Apple Trees on Saturday, January 10!

The following was received by Wallyhood from Lee Swedin on behalf of Sound and Fury Morris. I attended the 2025 ceremony and highly recommend attending the upcoming 2026 event, especially for those who appreciate the apple trees at Meridian Playground.

Sound and Fury Morris Dancers invite you to our 17th annual Apple Orchard Wassail at Meridian Playground. This free and family-friendly event will include singing, dancing, and toasting to the health of the apple trees. Join us and visiting dancers, rain or shine!

  • When: Saturday, January 10th, 1–2 pm
  • Location: Northwest corner of Meridian Playground, near the apple trees that grow along Meridian Avenue N
  • What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothing and (optional) noise makers, handkerchiefs, and singing voice

The Seattle Wassail has become a tradition among the Morris Dancers of the region. Local sides and visitors from around the Pacific Northwest join us each year to Wassail the apple trees in Seattle, including Meridian Playground in Wallingford and occasionally Piper’s Orchard in Carkeek Park. We are partial to our Cider, so it’s important for us to take care of the fruit trees, ensuring they will bear fruit for the coming year and, of course, next year’s Cider harvests!

Right now, walking around Meridian Playground, the apple trees are quite dormant, but come spring, they come to life with beautiful blossoms.
