Kostas Opa in Wallingford Now Open; Blue Star Closing

Happy New Year, everyone!

I am pleased to report that after many months of closure, Kostas Opa Greek Restaurant, located at 1924 N 45th Street, is now back open for breakfast and lunch from 8 am–3 pm every day.

Hostess Penny and Owner Kosta

I stopped by and met Kosta, the owner, and hostess Penny, who explained that they are doing a soft opening for the time being to reintroduce the restaurant to the neighborhood.

They allowed me to take several pictures of the inside of the dining rooms, and it appears quite comfortable and cozy inside.   The huge menu includes a wide selection of items to choose from. Breakfast specialties include many types of omelets, eggs, waffles, pancakes, eggs Benedict, and scrambles.  Lunch specialties include sandwiches, burgers, soups and salads.

My wife and I stopped by recently to try out the menu. We each ordered breakfast items, which were quite filling, and we enjoyed the decor while waiting for the food. During their soft opening, some details are still being worked out, most notably hiring additional staff in progress.

There is plenty of free parking in the back behind our beloved Murphy’s Pub. Kostas Opa can be reached at 206-466-4000. Please stop by to support this local restaurant.

As the Wallingford community welcomes the reopening of Kostas, we are saddened by the news that another beloved Wallingford establishment will be closing. We received the following from Wendy Morales, owner of Blue Star Cafe & Pub, located at 4512 Stone Way N:

We wanted our VIPs to be the first to know that the Blue Star’s 50-year legacy will end Sunday, February 1st, 2026. Rising operating costs (labor, food, taxes, utilities, etc.), fewer people dining out, and no viable lease succession option from the building owner—it has become unsustainable for me as an owner-operator to stay open in this difficult economic time. The economic squeeze ultimately hits us, the sole proprietors, and years of this pressure without relief in sight make closing the only viable option.

We are forever grateful for your support and truly consider you our Blue Star Family. Staying consistent with our quality, recipes, and service has been our #1 goal. I’m also proud to say our employees genuinely have enjoyed serving you year after year!

We hope you have some time to visit us again before or on February 1st! Such a great reason to gather with family and friends… one, two, or a few last time(s). We still have Happy Hour 3–6 pm, and Monday Trivia—always fun! Our hours will remain 8 am–9 pm & 8 pm on Sunday.

You will definitely see me take on a new direction that excites me to the core! More to come on that in the near future! Again, so so grateful for allowing us to show you our heartfelt hospitality over these five decades 💙!! Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for daily updates as we wrap up the month.

Cheers to you! Wendy Morales

Thanks for the memories
