With 2025 safely in the rearview mirror (or in the rearview mirror in any event) let’s look back at the top stories on our site just in case you missed some.
But before I get to that, I need to point out a momentous event that took place, which is not reflected in the list of top stories: we updated our look for the first time ever. This was discussed several years ago, and a couple of people even worked on it. And then… nothing happened. This time around though, with our backs to the wall and our creaky software becoming more and more difficult to update, Jordan got it done. Thanks, Jordan!
And now with no further ado, here are the top ten Wallyhood stories of 2025:
- Does your local store donate to Democrats or Republicans? (Susanna, 5808 page views): While no one would call Wallingford, or Seattle for that matter, ground zero for the culture wars, apparently we enjoy reading about them.
- URGENT Zoning Alert for Wallingford: Gasworks “Neighborhood Center” (Larry Bush, 3134 page views): This proposal was voted down by the city council, but on procedural grounds: most council members felt there was not enough time to consider this. So we may see this come up again soon.
- Good Shepherd Center to be Razed and Rebuilt (Gary Shigenaka, 2258 page views): The GSC was never razed nor rebuilt. And there was never any discussion to do so… April Fools!!
- The Great Wallingford Bratwurst Festival – September 12 & 13, 2025 (Gary Shigenaka, 2181 page views): Food is very popular among Wallyhood readers. I’ll confess to eating every day.
- Retiring in Wallingford on a Budget (JustPatti, 1822 page views): We’re not talking about a Jeff Bezos budget or an Elon Musk budget.
- Chipotle to Open at Former Taco Time Site on 45th (Janet, 1560 page views): See, there’s that food thing again.
- Coffeeholic House: Vietnamese Coffee Shop to Open in Wallingford This Spring (ash.nash, 1460 page views): It’s open now, and if you like your coffee sweet, this is your place.
- Anti-LGBTQ Group to Rally at Gas Works Saturday (Jack, 1384 page views): The “rally” turned out to be a pretty minor affair.
- Retiring in Wallingford: Aging in Place in Your Family Home (JustPatti, 1363 page views): How to carefully evaluate your space for its suitability as you age.
- Retiring in Wallingford: Living Without a Car (JustPatti, 1215 page views): Using public transportation in retirement can save significant amounts of money compared to owning a car.
A shoutout must go to JustPatti, the author of three of our top ten stories—all part of her Retiring in Wallingford series. And she’s not done yet!
