Pickleball: Great Fun or Annoying Noise

Daniel June 28, 2024 1 Comment

Pickleball is a very popular game. It is easy to learn, it is social, it doesn’t cost a lot to get started and you don’t have to be a great athlete to enjoy it. You can have a great workout and lots of fun no matter how good you are.

Pickleball is also driving neighbors near Wallingford Park crazy with its annoying noise. A Wallyhood reader sent us a note about noise from pickleball games at the Wallingford Park (park website) that have been starting very early in the morning. We decided to look into the problem, what the rules …

Wallingford Famers Market opens on May 29

Our beautiful summer is just around the corner and that means it is time for the Wallingford Farmers Market to open. This year it will open on Wednesday, May 29. The market is open from 3pm to 7pm every Wednesday until September 25.

The market is located in Meridian Park at 50th and Meridian Ave N just behind the Good Shepherd building. There is parking on Meridian Ave N between 45th and 50th and nearby in the neighborhood. It does get crowded with cars and the neighbors ask you to please park legally and not block driveways. The 62 bus …

Frelard Tamales is Moving to Fremont

Daniel May 24, 2024 1 Comment

Frelard Tamales will be moving soon to 106 N 36th St. in Fremont. For the past nine years Frelard has been serving tamales from its store located near the corner of Latona and 65th. If you have ever been there, you’ll know you place your order from the window at the Latona location. Since that has become iconic to the store, they are taking the window with them to the new location. No exact date has been set for the move but it will be sometime this summer depending on getting all the right permits in place.

The new location …

Daniel April 24, 2024 Comments are off

Wallingford has a new auto shop located at 2221 N 45th Street. Omar’s Tires and General Mechanic opened its doors at the beginning of April. Omar’s Tires is a locally owned family business that started in 2008. The Wallingford shop is its 5th location and the first that is located in Seattle. Remodeling and updating the shop on 45th started in mid-February and they had a soft open near the end of March. Their other stores are in Lakewood, Lynnwood, Everett and Tacoma.

I interviewed Pablo Diego Rodriquez who is the owner of the store and son of the company’s …

Sourdough Boule

Have you ever wondered if you could bake sourdough bread like you’d get from a baker but didn’t know where to start? This Wallyhood writer, who has never baked bread before, wanted to try. There are tons of YouTube videos and books on the topic but I wanted to take a class in person. I did an internet search for local baking classes and found one at our own Sea Wolf Bakery on Stone Way N.

Sea Wolf was founded in 2014 by brothers Jesse and Kit Schumann. What started as a wholesale-only business changed in 2016 with the opening …

Fat Cat Records is now on Stone Way

Daniel December 15, 2023 Comments are off

Fat Cat Records, formerly near the corner of Meridian and 45th, has moved to a new location at 4206 Stone Way N. The store which sells new and used records, CDs and cassette tapes was opened in 2018 by Frank Laufer and his father James. Its opening in 2018 was covered by Wallywood in a blog post.

The new location has features that the old one lacked. Parking was an issue at the Meridian location and the old space was too small to fit Fat Cat’s growth plans. It did have a very visible and iconic sign, though.

The Stone …
