Helen has lived in Wallingford for 16 years and think it’s the best neighborhood in Seattle, possibly the world. She has worn a track between her house, QFC and the library and spends a lot time poking her nose into things. She is a mother, does volunteer work and is interested in local, green and child-related issues. She has an advanced degree in English literature and thus reads a lot and enjoys the craft of writing. She also works part-time for her husband’s software company (doesn’t everyone have a software company around here?).

Huge Crowd Grabs Free Comic Books

Helen May 3, 2010 1 Comment

Just a few blocks from the Tilth’s Edible Plant Sale, another great Wallingford annual tradition was drawing big (albeit different) crowds:  Free Comic Book Day at Comics Dungeon on 45th Street.

An employee there told me there was a huge line wrapping around the Free table from 10:40 to 12:30 and that it’s always their busiest day of the year, but this was even busier than last year.  By 1 PM most of the good stuff had been taken, but this little Boba Fett was still pretty satisfied.

A pile of free comic books and a well-stocked spring garden.  Could …

Edible Plant Sale Photo Album

Despite chilly, blustery, damp weather gardeners turned out in record numbers this weekend for Seattle Tilth’s Annual Edible Plant Sale.

“Wristband entry”, new this year, was in force where buyers were assigned a time to enter to even out the load.  Arrive early if you don’t want to wait!

Long lines formed but there were plenty of other distractions.

Donuts!

Talks!

Crafts!

The lucky ones who had been able to get their plants finally emerged from the picnic shelter ready to go home and start another season of growing.

Guild Exit Poll – ‘The Joneses’

Helen April 22, 2010 3 Comments

Forget professional reviewers.  Find out what the people think!  Here are the impressions of actual, real-life Wallingford moviegoers as they were exiting The Guild‘s new film, The Joneses, with David Duchovny and Demi Moore (talk about a eugenics experiment):

“For what it was, it was entertaining.  It was not deep in any way, an interesting romantic comedy.  It came out at the wrong time.  In our failed economy, this is more about economic affluence.“

“Great movie!  Well put together, very professional, top of the line, not a flaw.  But not that funny, just ok.”

“Thought it was going …
