Seattle Bouldering Project Coming to Stone Way

Jack October 17, 2019 14 Comments

As part of the ongoing remake of the southern part of Stone Way, Seattle Bouldering Project plans to expand into a new location at 3535 Interlake Ave. This is the space immediately behind (east) of Hashtag and the Stone Way Cafe (two businesses whose future seems in doubt given the Land Use Action sign out front). A small building to the north will also house some SBP facilities.

For those unfamiliar with bouldering, SBP offers this definition: “Bouldering is rock climbing, without using ropes or harnesses, on climbs that don’t go too high off the ground.” So rocks and heights …

EV Come, EV Go

Jack October 13, 2019 4 Comments

Back in January, I wrote about a City Light program to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers in 10-15 locations throughout the city. One of the chosen locations was Gas Works Park, and work was slated for completion by late Spring or early Summer of this year. I get down to Gas Works quite frequently, but I haven’t seen the charging station. And that is easily explained by the fact that it just isn’t there.

I snooped around on the internet to find out what’s going on.

City Light has a map showing all the proposed sites, and their status. If …

That Knock at Your Door May Be the US Census

Jack October 11, 2019 6 Comments

You may have seen the signs, both in Seattle and elsewhere, seeking temporary workers to conduct the door-to-door portion of the 2020 US Census. Even as the census bureau beats the bushes looking for workers, census activities are ongoing and have been since August.

While the official US head count will not begin until next year, the census bureau conducts many other types of surveys, and the city of Seattle wants you to know your rights if someone purporting to be from the census comes around.

As we all know, there is no shortage of people who go door-to-door pretending …

Final (?) Parking Zone Plan Is In

Jack September 29, 2019 Comments are off

Those of us living near Restricted Parking Zone 22 (in southern Wallingford east of Stone Way) or Zone 34 (in eastern Wallingford near 40th) recently received a mailer from the city entitled Notice of Decision describing changes to these RPZs. The very title as well as the actions to take place in just the next month or two have me believing that, this time, “final” means final.

Back in June, I wrote about SDOT’s most recent proposals for these RPZs based upon citizen input and surveys. Essentially, SDOT was contemplating two significant modifications to the plan they had at that …
