Restaurant Christine, Tangletown’s New Dining Option

Jack January 14, 2022 1 Comment

If you’re dying for Himalayan food – perhaps a dal bhat – then you’re out of luck if your destination is the Himalayan Sherpa House in Tangletown. It is permanently closed. But if you’re fancying some delicious “seasonal northwest comfort food” then Restaurant Christine, now open in the Himalayan Sherpa House space, may be for you.

The owner and head chef at Restaurant Christine is Adam Furler. Furler held a stealthy, “super soft” opening of his place back on October 1, but plans something grander in the (hopefully near) future. “I still have done no advertising due to covid and …

My Friday Trash Collection Was Canceled. What Now?

Jack January 4, 2022 Comments are off

Seattle Public Utilities announced last week that they would be canceling their Friday collection back on December 31 due to “remaining icy and unsafe conditions.” If you were scheduled for a Friday pick up, like me, or your pick up last week was missed for any other reason, what do you do now?

SPU has this message:

All collections are scheduled to resume next week starting Monday, Jan 3. All missed residential customers are permitted to set out double their normal amount of garbage, recycling, and compost on their collection day for no additional charge. This includes recycling collection, even …

Green Lake Outer Loop

Jack December 27, 2021 6 Comments

Following on the heels of the completion, earlier this year, of the bike path along East Green Lake Way, the city is now making plans to finish this “outer loop” by adding a path along the west side of the lake. The vision is for separated lanes for walking and biking to be added to Aurora Avenue and West Green Lake Way. While funds have been allocated for the planning phase of this project, money for the actual construction has yet to be identified.

The Plan

The multi-use path around Green Lake immediately near the water (the “inner loop”) is, …

Cement Falling from I-5

Jack December 24, 2021 5 Comments

Well, it looks as if the Seattle Times has scooped us once again with this story about cement falling from the I-5 bridge. The one sentence summary is that, while small chunks of concrete have been falling off the underside of the bridge for some time, no one is known to have been hit, and WSDOT insists the bridge is safe to drive on. In an abundance of caution, the Seattle parks department has closed two parks, the South Point Passage Park on the south side of the bridge and the North Point Passage Park in our neighborhood. That still …

Forums Are Back

Jack December 14, 2021 1 Comment

Yes, it’s been a while. Over a year, in fact. Late last summer, after wrestling with a spam problem on our forums for a few months, we regretfully made the decision to shut them down. Not only did there seem to be no easy solution, but with the pandemic in full bloom, we here at Wallyhood had less time to devote to this blog overall.

We recently revisited this problem with fresh eyes, and we’ve come up with some new solutions. We hope that these fixes will stick, but there are no guarantees, of course. While we don’t want to …

Library Resumes Normal Hours

Jack December 7, 2021 1 Comment

Since the start of the pandemic, most Seattle Public Library branches have offered limited services or been closed outright. It was only last September that our neighborhood branch partially reopened. Jason Davis, Temporary Supervising Librarian of the Wallingford branch, now informs us that, beginning this week, the branch will resume normal hours. These are:

Mondays and Tuesdays 1pm to 8pm Wednesdays and Thursdays 11am to 6pm Off on Fridays Sundays noon to 5pm

In addition, the exterior book drop is now open 24/7. No more excuses for not returning your borrowed items!…
