Wallyhood to Sue Seattle Times Over Infringement

Jack April 1, 2023 3 Comments

We have learned that a suit by Wallyhood of the Seattle Times is imminent and may come in the next few days to weeks. At issue are a number of “methods and practices” unique to the blog that have been copied by the Times without apparent license or attribution.

When asked to summarize the issues, editor Megan Dulgar Okabayashi pointed to the most serious transgression by the Times. “We tend to end every sentence with a period, and then that is followed by a space. Our readers look for that. And I love that about us. But if you look …

Kiddie Parade Needs Help … Still

Jack February 15, 2023 2 Comments

Back in October, we wrote that the Kiddies Parade, a neighborhood institution for over 70 years, may be in danger of being discontinued in coming years due to lack of support. The parade, run this year by Celebrate Wallingford, is in dire need of both financial support and volunteers. Back in October, they sent postcards to many residents to try to drum up support.

In describing the scope of the need, Blake Garfield (of Bedrooms and More, a major force behind the parade for many years), chairman of Celebrate Wallingford’s board, told us back in November “It costs roughly $10,000 …

Changes Celebrates 34 Years of Cheerful Times

Jack February 7, 2023 1 Comment

Few businesses in our neighborhood have been as enduring as Changes near the corner of 45th and Meridian. The Hawaiian Store and Murphy’s come to mind although Murphy’s used to be down the street a bit where Starbuck’s used to be (and Young Tea now is).

On Sunday, January 29, Changes celebrated its 34th anniversary. Ryan from Changes emailed us with the announcement:

Changes, the longest continually owned-and-operated gay bar in Seattle, celebrated their 34th Anniversary on Sunday, January 29 with a night of karaoke and celebratory times. The bar’s owner Floyd McIsaac was 36 years old when …

Ladd and Lass One-Year Anniversary Celebration

Jack January 5, 2023 Comments are off

While not quite located in our neighborhood, Ladd and Lass Brewing (located at 722 NE 45th St beside the Blue Moon) is, for many of us, our nearest brewery. (That may change next year for some of us with the arrival of Gasworks Brewing.) L&L opened about a year ago as reported here by Gary, and now they are celebrating their one-year anniversary.

Jessie Quan, an L&L founder along with Nick Ladd, emailed us to say:

Hope you’re enjoying a wonderful (warm, safe, and power outage-free) holiday season!

I’m writing because Ladd & Lass is officially a year old now…
