Aditi: A Place to Center in the Heart of Wallingford

Kim September 4, 2019 3 Comments

Aditi is a special place, and for me personally, a sacred space.

As I walked into Aditi’s new location in the Wallingford Center today I recalled my memories of Aditi when I first moved here years ago. I was always intrigued by the beautiful Aditi Yoga sign on an otherwise drab building on Stone Way, but it wasn’t until I became pregnant with my daughter that I found a reason to go inside and check out a prenatal yoga class. What I discovered was a vibrant community space where I would meet friends and gain the support and education that …

Treat Yourself at Cedarhouse Flowers and Peti Boutique

Kim June 15, 2019 1 Comment

I wish I hadn’t waited until being assigned an article to walk into Cedarhouse Flowers/ Peti Boutique, the floral design studio and clothing boutique that opened late last year at 1621 N45th, across from Molly Moons and next to the new Grand Central Bakery.

Having strolled by a few times prior with my unruly toddler who leaves a Cheerio trail everywhere we go, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome into such a sophisticated interior and by the temptation to buy (or break) a lot of pretty things inside.

The shop is a partnership between two Wallingford residents, Parnel …

Saltstone Ceramics opens Sept 1

Kim August 31, 2018 Comments are off

Sarah Steininger Leroux believes that a creative practice is an important part of a holistic life, no different than exercise or a spiritual practice. “It’s a part of our psyche to want to produce,” she says, “it makes people feel fulfilled.” And yet, Steininger has found that many people are intimidated by creative experiences. She also feels that in urban tech centers like Seattle, people are often working on intangible projects that make it difficult to walk away and say “I made that.”

Saltstone Ceramics strives to make art and the creative process accessible, right here in Wallingford! Currently run …

A Sneak Peak into Seattle Furniture Company

Kim July 14, 2018 1 Comment

Seattle Furniture Company may just be the coolest shop you’ve never heard of! Hiding in the basement next to Norco Medical Supply and marked by an inconspicuous sandwich board is a 7000+ square foot trove of American and Danish mid century furnishings, along with vintage and contemporary, Asian, industrial and Hollywood Regency home décor.

Located 0.1 mile from my house, I’m ashamed to admit that I walked by for several years without believing there was anything worthwhile inside such an unassuming storefront. It wasn’t until my seemingly impossible quest for high-quality, affordable patio furniture that I decided to check the …
