Neighborhood Bilingual Preschool: Zoom

Rachel August 12, 2011 1 Comment

If you’re interested in sending your pre-schooler to a Spanish-immersion school in the neighborhood, in addition to Cometa Playschool (which we reported on back in June), Zoom Playschool has a Wallingford location with classes for children ages one through ten.

Zoom owner Angelica Camargo reports that Zoom is a Spanish immersion program “that is presented in conjunction with a creative curriculum designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity, develop logical thought processes, support cognitive growth, enhance language opportunities and build phonological and written language skills.”

Angelica notes that “our students are able to read and write simple sentences in Spanish” after completing …

Woodland Park Cooperative Preschool Moves to Fremont

Rachel June 26, 2011 Comments are off

Toby at Woodland Park Cooperative Preschool sent us the following announcement about their recent move from Phinney Ridge to Fremont:

We’re happy to announce that our preschool has found a new home at the Fremont Baptist Church. For now, we’re still going by the name Woodland Park Cooperative Preschool.

We are part of a network of independent cooperative preschools run through North Seattle Community College, serving children ages 2-5. (Wallingford Cooperative Preschool on Keystone is also a part of the NSCC co-op system.) Although our preschool is new to the neighborhood, you may already know our teacher Tom Hobson – …

New Bilingual Preschool: Cometa Playschool

Rachel June 6, 2011 2 Comments

If you’re looking for opportunities to expose your preschooler to Spanish, there’s a new Spanish language preschool in Wallingford. Cometa Playschool has opened a new location at 4106 Stone Way North, next door to Kuma Coffee.  Cometa offers toddler, preschool and school-age Spanish classes.

Owner Manuela Slye explains that Cometa is “passionate about bilingual education and we believe our program will be a valuable addition to a neighborhood that already has access to foreign language education – JSIS, Hamilton, and soon McDonald. We have been serving the West Seattle community since Summer 2008 and we feel we are ready to …

Rachel May 19, 2011 1 Comment

Have you ever walked by the west side of Wallingford Center and wished that someone would take advantage of all that open (usually empty) patio space?  Well, Izilla Toys will be doing just that with their new summer picnic party series.  Here are the details from the folks at Izilla:

We’re celebrating summer by hosting monthly parties in and around our Wallingford Center shop. Pack a blanket and a picnic dinner (or bring some delicious Chutney’s takeout) and soak up some evening sun on Wallingford Center’s beautiful west-facing patios. One Thursday evening a month from 5:30 to 8 pm we …

New Neighborhood Preschool: Exploration Academy

Rachel April 8, 2011 1 Comment

(Wallyhood welcomes Rachel Feldstein to our writing corps! She’ll be covering kids-related issues and whatever strikes her fancy.)

Have you ever noticed a gaggle of little kids tethered together, exploring the neighborhood?  If so, you’ve likely seen the students from Exploration Academy, a new Wallingford preschool.

I had the opportunity to tour the school last week and chat with the director, longtime Wallingford resident Michelle Warren.  She opened Exploration Academy in Wallingford Center last fall because it “seemed like the perfect location to provide exceptional care and service to children and parents in my community.”  Working with an architect, she …
