Wallyhood is a "group blog" with many contributors. However, whenever you see a post written by "Wallyhood", that's Jordan Schwartz, Wallyhood's founder, Editor-in-Chief, Publisher, community manager, janitor, account executive, and chief enthusiast. Jordan has lived in the same little house in Wallingford since 1993. He arrived from points east with his cat, Fourth, and has since been joined by his wife Michelle, son Zevin, chickens Dominique, Winny and Betty and bees innumerable and unnamed. Days find him working on Pathable, a social networking service for conferences and events.

Construction in Wallingfaux

Jordan March 25, 2010 14 Comments

Christina, our neighbor over here near 40th Ave NE and Latona, writes:

Had a little chat this morning with construction workers on 40th greenbelt–stair rehab project. They’ve excavated the old stairs and we’ll soon have a new poured concrete staircase with new handrail. Stairs will be 6ft 10inches wide (the standard stair width of Seattle, or of something)–that’s double-wide what the old one was.

So, even though it seems like no one in the city or rest of Wallingford proper cares much about us in Wallingfaux  (98105 zip, 98103 taxes/real estate flyers/post office, best neighbors around), we’ll soon have a …

Jordan March 24, 2010 1 Comment

OK, they’re collecting more than scanners, but we just get all loopy for alliterations. Christopher writes:

Boy Scout Troop 186 is conducting an e-cycling drive this Saturday as a fundraiser for troop activates. We’re encouraging folks to contact us this week and schedule a pickup time for Saturday (March 27th) morning. We’ll pick up as many boxes as you have at $25 / a box. Old computers, cell phones, chargers, cables, monitors, TVs, printers (small surcharge there), you name it.

If you’ve got electronics to eject, contact them at [email protected]. Another option for electronics recycling is to drop off at …

Free and Cheap Eats Day

Jordan March 23, 2010 1 Comment

Let’s take the freebie tour of Wallingford, shall we?

We’ll start with a free pastry at Starbucks (before 10:30 am, print the coupon or show the barista a copy on your mobile phone). Timed, perhaps, to coincide with the Starbuck’s annual shareholder’s meeting Wednesday?

A fine breakfast, but now it’s time for some lunch. How about Ivar’s? Perfect, because they’re celebrating the 105th birthday of their “flounder”, Ivar Haglund. Buy one entree, say “Happy Birthday, Ivar” and you’ll get a second entree for 105 cents. That’s a $1.05 for the math challenged. This one tends to be quite popular, so …
