Unfortunately, we have nothing to report. Margaret tried calling Chow Foods, who own the lease, and they wouldn’t comment. Previously, they’ve said that the spot will be used as a “test kitchen and office”, which makes little sense to us, given its prime real estate location.

The old Essential Bakery space won’t be vacant long, according to Wallyhood tipster Ryan G:
I spoke to the folks as Essential Baking, they said that a bicycle manufacturer is coming to town in place of the bakery. Brooke at Speedy Reedy (great shop) confirmed that the founders of Wheelsmiths, the first spoke manufacturer in the United States is opening some sort of facility where the bakery used to be.

You may have noticed that things got a but quiet around here all of the sudden. What happened was, the Wallyhoods left Wallingford. Don’t worry, just temporary like: we’re on a short trip to Molokai.
We had actually intended to do some blogging from down here, but the Internet is a bit spotty, and so we’re reduced to tapping out our posts on an iPhone.
On the bright side, we listened to humpback whale song snorkeling outside our flat this morning, so ya know, not so bad.

Actually, that’s not a euphemism. Cloverleaf is an area by Georgetown, and, as we reported back in December, EBC purchased the Parisian Desserts Company down there a few years back. As of last week, they finished consolidating all their baking operations at that facility.
What this means for Wallingford is a) fewer local jobs and, more importantly, b) no more dumpsters full of bread.
