Wallyhood is a "group blog" with many contributors. However, whenever you see a post written by "Wallyhood", that's Jordan Schwartz, Wallyhood's founder, Editor-in-Chief, Publisher, community manager, janitor, account executive, and chief enthusiast. Jordan has lived in the same little house in Wallingford since 1993. He arrived from points east with his cat, Fourth, and has since been joined by his wife Michelle, son Zevin, chickens Dominique, Winny and Betty and bees innumerable and unnamed. Days find him working on Pathable, a social networking service for conferences and events.

John Stanford REALLY recycles

Jordan January 8, 2010 Comments are off

Barb Burrill says “recycle those holiday cards…and juice boxes!”

Not satisifed with the usual “cart it off to the recycling center, where a petroleum-fueled process breaks down materials into their constituent parts for re-admission into the consumer cycle”, the John Stanford International School’s “Green Team” is making items directly from recycled materials. Barb says:

We make purses, lunch bags and tote bags from foil pouches such as Capri Sun, but we accept any brand. We also will be making gift tags and boxes from greeting cards of any type.

So save those cards! The school is closed now so we …

Jordan January 7, 2010 2 Comments

The Phinneywood blog has the scoop on a group of folks trying to save the nocturnal exhibit at the Woodland Park Zoo:

Woodland Park Zoo announced in November that it will close its Nocturnal House exhibit for budget reasons. But, now there’s a group of zoo lovers who are banding together to try to keep it open.

“For 2010, we needed long-term solutions that match our income with increasing expenses, and that meant reducing annual expenses between $800,000 and $1 million,” the zoo explained to supporters in a letter posted on its website yesterday. “Closing the Night Exhibit emerged as …
