Welcome New Sponsor: Zümbini

Wallyhood is pleased to welcome a new sponsor to our fold, Bridget Miller and her Zümbini class. Bridget writes: Although I am trained in classical forms of dance, I found a passion for Zumba®. Recently Zumba began training a handful of their Zin™ members in a new program called Zumbini that is designed for caregivers and their little ones (ages 0-3 yrs, some exceptions). It consists of dancing, singing and playing musical instruments, which provides exposure to music and all its…

Goat Rodeo!

The wind storm blowing through this morning has its first casualty: the fence containing the goats down on 40th St below I-5. Or perhaps it was opportunistic goats: the wind blew leaves against the fence, the goats stood up against the fence to eat them off and ka-plump!, the fence tumbled down. As of this writing, a cordon of volunteers, some with dogs (and at least one with a viking helmet) are lined up to ensure the goats don't run amok…

Obliteride sets record

Remember a month or so back they shut down part of Gas Works for the kick-off party for The Obliteride, a fundraising event to fight cancer? Here's the word on how it turned out: The inaugural Obliteride was a huge success. In its first year, Obliteride raised more money for a local organization than any other bicycling fundraiser in the Northwest. The inaugural ride raised $1.9 million that will go directly to lifesaving research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. “We are…

I pissed a few people off in my writing (I believe the term "douchy" was bandied about), and if my language obscured my message (come on, people, what's one "STFU" between friends?), I apologize. Anyway, the long and short of it is that my son, Zev, is on a diet that excludes pretty much anything edible anyone could…

Stone Soup IndieGoGo

Everyone's getting in on the crowdfunding game, including Wallingford's own independent theater, Stone Soup: Stone Soup Theatre specializes in providing interesting and unusual work in a short play, at an affordable price, but we struggle to afford our space with a 40% rent increase and a $5,000 triple net charge in 2013 (taxes that a landlord can legally pass onto tenants)! Help us keep our space and raise $5,000 to pay for our triple net taxes so that we can stay in…

Pumpkin Goat

Those goats we told you about earlier this week are still down by I-5 and 40th, munching blackberry. Britt Dietrich writes: Just wanted to let you know that when we brought our pumpkin "guts" to feed the goats today, the goat lady was there and said they LOVE pumpkins! She requested that we contact you to put the word out. But please NOT anything else. For example: Laurel is toxic to goats!
