Seattle Restaurant Week

Three days left, Sunday October 20th - Thursday October 24th,  to try out Seattle Restaurant Week, with 160 restaurants around the city offering three-course dinners for $28 and many offering three-course lunches for $15. It's billed as an opportunity to "visit the award-winning hot spots you've always wanted to try and return once again to the neighborhood eatery you've loved for years during this dining frenzy". In Wallingford, your options are Art of the Table, Cantinetta, Tilth, Eva and Tutta Bella,…

Welladay! Welladay!

I'm always amazed at the bits of uniqueness going on almost every week at the Good Shepherd Center. For example, this Saturday: Nonsequitur's Wayward Music Series is pleased to announce Welladay! Welladay! a collection of wayward love songs for the Chapel Performance Space happening on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 8 PM.Performed in the historic Good Shepherd Center on the wooden stairs leading to the fourth-floor and inside the Chapel itself, Welladay! Welladay! sweeps through 36 James Joyce love poems. Singing children, soprano Betsy Baeskins, and…

Two Chances to Press Cider This Weekend

Nothing says autumn like some hand-cranked cider! This weekend you have two opportunities to enjoy some fall fun by crushing apples the old-fashioned way. The Freeway Estates Community Orchard (FECO) is hosting their third annual cider press, which features an old-fashioned cider press (aka kid magnet), apple bobbing and a scavenger hunt. Head on over to FECO between 2 pm and 5 pm on Saturday to meet neighbors and partake of the apple harvest. If Saturday's event whets your appetite for cider making, you are in…

Wallingford Pizza House Out, Octopus Bar In

The Wallingford Pizza House, "Seattle's Only Classic Chicago-Style Pizza House", has served its last deep dish pie. Their number doesn't seem to be in service anymore, and there's no other contact info on their web site, so that's pretty much all we know. In its place, you may soon find the Octopus Bar, which, according to their web site: will be a neighborhood Seattle bar synonymous with a deep-sea search for a new experience, combining the familiar with the soon-to-be. We…

Council and Mayoral Debate at Lincoln High School Today, 10/16

We've semi-finalized the debate script. The debate will be in the Lincoln High School auditorium, entering from 44th and Woodlawn Ave. The City Council debate goes from 5:30 to 6:30 and includes Bagshaw, Bellomio, Licata-ish stand in, Fruit, Sawant, Conlin, and Shen. The Mayoral debate goes from 6:35 to 7:30 and features McGinn and Murray. This is our neighborhood debate for city races, so we need a good community turn out to show the candidates we're paying attention. I thought it would be interesting…

RIP Rusty Pelican (more to come?)

The Rusty Pelican has shuttered its Wallingford location after 11 1/2 years. According to a friend of the owners, the store was successful financially, but the owners were unable to renew the lease, as the building's owner, Costas Antonopoulos, is looking to to build a mixed use development on the lot, which includes the rug show next door as well as Murphy's Pub. The Rusty Pelican's Mill Creek and Edmonds locations remain open and their Facebook page states simply: We would like to…
